Unlocking Problem Solving K2

**The name Cuisenaire Rods and the color sequence of the rods are registered trademarks of hand2mind, inc.**

In my consulting work, one of the biggest frustrations is surrounding students' lack of perseverance in problem solving. Too often, our students want to just grab the numbers, find a key word to tell them what operation to do, and then answer the problem. However, there are so many ways we can explore problem solving with students that will unlock a positive math journey for all!

This workshop will focus on the 15 problem types that involve addition and subtraction situations, modeling the structure of the types, providing flexibility in the calculation of answers, and a plethora of ideas of how we can engage students in the problem solving experience. Together we can foster the development of curious, risk-taking, confident, and flexible mathematicians!

What People Are Saying:

"During the Summers of 2021 and 2022, Ann Elise was able to travel to Nebraska and provide in person training for our teachers. The survey responses from the participants often used the words "light-bulbs" but more importantly that word is typically followed by synonyms for relevant, life-changing and engaged. Ann Elise understands the needs of educators and knows how to tailor her training to ensure quality professional development for all. Ann Elise's ability to develop a strong connection with her participants allows her to push them in a way that they respond and makes them want to achieve more."
